Data collected
Shaka works without an account for viewing forecasts. If you create an account, we collect: your email, a nickname, your declared surf level, your favourite spots, your alert preferences, and — if you use the logbook — your sessions (spot, date, rating, personal notes, photos). This data is used solely to provide the site's features (alerts, favourites, logbook, forum) and is never resold.
Cookies
A technical session cookie (surf_session) is set on login — essential to the account's operation, kept for 30 days. If advertising is enabled, Google AdSense may set measurement and personalisation cookies; you can refuse them via the consent banner.
Affiliate links
Some gear recommendations contain affiliate links (Rip Curl, Hurley, Decathlon): Shaka may earn a commission on your purchases, at no extra cost to you. These links are flagged on the relevant pages.
Your rights (GDPR)
You can view, correct or delete your data: deleting your content (sessions, forum posts, favourites) is available directly on the site; for full account deletion, contact us and we'll proceed within 30 days. Data hosted in the European Union.
Data sources
Forecasts: Open-Meteo (wave, weather and water-level models). Spots: Shaka editorial database and OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL licence). Forecasts are indicative and do not replace your judgement or safety guidelines at sea.
